Chromebook Frequently Asked Questions

    • No. You can start a session and access the Chrome web browser and the Internet without a Google account. However, to use things like Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, a Google account is required.

    • You can sign in to the Chrome browser after starting a session to access Google account features. Simply go to https://www.google.com, opens Google.com website in a new tab in Chrome and then click on the Sign In button.

    • There is no time limit for your session. When you close Chrome, your session will end in 20 seconds unless you click cancel on the prompt that pops up. If you turn off the Chromebook, any active sessions will end. Any files that you download will be deleted when your session ends, so please make sure to save any important files to either an external USB drive, an SD card, or to an online file storage service like Google Drive.

    • The Chromebook must be connected to a Wi-Fi network to access the Internet. A hotspot is not provided, so you will need to use an existing Wi-Fi network if you are outside of the library. If you are using the Chromebook at the library, the Chromebook should automatically connect to a library Wi-Fi network.

    • Please try refreshing the webpage, either by clicking on the refresh button in Chrome or by pressing the refresh button on the keyboard. If a refresh does not resolve the issue, you can try rebooting the Chromebook by holding down the power button. In some cases, the website you are trying to visit may be blocked by the library’s filtering software.

    • You can use FCPL’s Mobile Printing Service to print. You will need to visit the library branch that you selected during the printing process in order to pick up your print jobs. The price for printing is $0.25 per page for black and white and $0.60 per page for color.

    • Yes. Most video conferencing services allow you to join a conference directly through the browser by clicking on your meeting link.

    • No. The library does install a few extensions on the Chromebook for your use.

    • Yes. To pair a Bluetooth device, go to settings, then click on Bluetooth or click on the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right of the screen. Then click on Bluetooth from the menu that pops up. From this menu, you can pair a Bluetooth device.

    • Click on the puzzle piece icon near the top right of the screen, then click on uBlock Origin Lite from the dropdown menu. When the uBlock Origin Lite window appears, click on the power button icon to disable blocking on the website you are currently visiting. You may need to refresh the page after turning off blocking in order for it to display correctly.
