What is Sensitive Santa?
These special Santa visits are designed specifically for children with sensory or other special needs and their families. We understand how challenging it can be for a child with sensory or other special needs to wait in line, feel overwhelmed with noises, sounds, and smells, and then be rushed to sit on the lap of a person they don’t know very well. The library's Sensitive Santa program offers an alternative to long lines, bright lights, and noisy environments. This program is unique in that it is specifically geared toward children with sensory sensitivities and accommodates children who may need more time with their Santa visit.
What to expect:
Dimmed lights
Lowered voices
No lines!
Children are welcome to bring snacks and we will provide an area for activities and coloring until it’s time to see Santa.
One-on-one time with Santa. No rushing, no interruptions.
Children sign up for 15-minute sessions. You will need to contact the Hampton Park Library to schedule your session. Due to the space and time constraints, we ask that families only take one 15-minute session.
Santa and his elves will be sensitive about touch and sound with your child, but let us know if you have or need any special considerations.
To Reserve Time with Santa:
Families will sign up for 15-minute Santa sessions. This gives the child time to get familiar with Santa and warm up to the idea of sitting on his lap or talking to him, rather than being rushed through the visit. Please let us know if your child will need a longer time or special consideration.
A Gentle Reminder:
This program is for children with sensory sensitivities (such as autism) or special needs and their families. Spacing is extremely limited.
Thank you in advance for your consideration!
