Did you know there are over 1400 species of bats in the world? Join bat experts Larry and Laurie Alvord to learn about the importance of bats, including the sixteen species that call Georgia home, and how we can help them. Their bat presentation will be followed by a walk outside for acoustic bat monitoring.
About the presenters:
Larry Alvord has 35 years of experience in research and development doing material testing in the medical device industry. Laurie Alvord has a broad range of experiences utilizing her degrees in engineering and education. She ran her own business and later developed curriculum for early childhood education and professional trainings for adults. Larry and Laurie are Georgia Master Naturalists and UGA Forsyth County Extension volunteers. They have worked on a variety of community projects, including the Benefits of Bat conservation project. Larry and Laurie are also members of the Georgia Bat Working Group and Southeastern Bat Diversity Network and want to bring public awareness of the importance of bats.
