Join author G.A. "Gus" Morris III, author of Saturdays in the South, as he pulls back the curtain of officiating football in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). College football brings people together from all walks of life with a common thread: cheering for their team. Strangers and adversaries become friends for a common purpose. The pageantry and traditions are absolutely amazing. And Gus, an automotive mechanic and small business owner, was thrust right in the middle of it to make sure the games followed the rules and were played fairly. Come and listen to Gus's firsthand experiences with the really good things of college football, the not-so-good things, and everything in between.
About the Author
Gus Morris, a graduate of Millsaps College (1982), officiated high school and college football for 35 years. Gus began officiating SEC Football in 1990. The end of the 2020 season culminated a 31 year SEC career. His 28 postseason assignments include 23 Bowl Games and 5 SEC Championship Games. At the beginning of his officiating career, Gus's father told him that he should "get there a little early and don't be in a hurry to leave." By doing just that, Gus Morris was able to have many incredible experiences while officiating football in the SEC, traveling all over the country and working with great officials, coaches, and players.
Gus is a board member of Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award/Charities Foundation and the Forsyth County Parks Foundation, as well as a member of the Millsaps College Sports Hall of Fame.
